Supplies to Survive a Severe Snowstorm
If a snowstorm hits and your power goes out for a day - 3 days - a week, would you be prepared? Here are some things to think about storing up before the winter season hits.

  • Lots of Long burning candles for continuous light
  • Extra batteries, or rechargeable batteries with a solar charger
  • Cards or games to entertain yourselves
  • Store enough canned (or freeze dried) food for a week
  • A week's supply of drinking water - that's one gallon, per person, per day
  • Several extra-thick blankets for added warmth
  • A battery-powered flashing beacon if you're camping
  • A set of warm clothes and hats/gloves/boots for each family member
  • Generators and extra fuel - stored safely away from house but still accessible in heavy snow

Also, check your equipment regularly. Test your generators and battery-powered devices. Make sure your home is well ventilated, with or without power - power outages knock out fireplace fans, too!
